Strengths: Inventive 2D/3D gameplay, great platformer action, nice RPG elements, good graphics.
Weaknesses: Lots of text to read
Summary: Super Paper Mario takes the 2D platformer concept and turns it 45 degrees to the side. The game plays mostly in 2D mode, like the previous Super Mario titles, though at times, it's turned into a 3D platformer for a short time. The 3D mode allows for getting past issues that can't be solved in 2D mode. The game looks pretty good, though there's an immense amount of text to read through as the game progresses. An RPG element, like Paper Mario for the GC, adds for some diversity above the regular platformer. It's a top-notch Wii title that's different enough to stick out from the rest of the Wii titles.

Strengths: Fun RPG-lite elements in a Mario platformer
Weaknesses: Heavy amounts of text dialogue
Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and was eagerly looking forward to this game. It did not disappoint. The ability to switch between 2D and 3D is used well for the game's various puzzles. Unlike Thousand Year Door, where combat was turn-based, here the action is of the more traditional mario-platform variety -- jump on the monster's heads, shoot fireballs, or throw items. There is a lot of dialogue, but the writing is clever and entertaining. If you enjoyed Thousand Year Door, you should pick up this title.

Strengths: Fun story and characters
Weaknesses: Some backtracking is tedious
Summary: Super Paper Mario is a thoroughly excellent platformer with RPG elements. The plot is coherent, the characters are charming and funny, and the puzzles are clever and interesting. Highly recommended.

Strengths: Witty dialogue, great platforming elements
Weaknesses: Occasionally doesn't know if it's an RPG or platformer.
Summary: Super Paper Mario is an excellent GameCube->Wii conversion. While clearly not a Wii title initially, the added functionality of the Wiimote does not detract from the experience. Intelligent Systems (or is it Treehouse?) once again delivers a fine localization with some of the funnier dialogue I've read in a game in some time. At times the game drags due to an excess of the same, but the 2 and 3D platforming elements more than make up for it, particularly in the extremely challenging Chapter 8.

Strengths: Exploration, Innovative
Weaknesses: Nothing I Could Think of
Summary: Mario is Back again in paper form. Super Paper Mario is an action adventure game with role playing elements added into the mix. Unlike the previous two Paper Mario games which had turn based battles systems like your typical RPGs you will be moving around in a 2D world which you will attack enemies to defeat them within that environment much like any of the old Super Mario Bros side scrollers. Early on in the game you will get an item that let's you press a button and turn the playing field 45 degrees and when you see the environment from that angle it becomes 3D and in doing so you can uncover secrets and areas that can't be seen or accessed from the 2D view. The simplest example I can think of is sometimes you will see a single block but when you turn the view 45 degrees to get a 3D view and you will uncover that behind that block are a few more that you can now see lined up that were hidden behind the single block you saw from the 2D perspective. I would highly recommend Super Paper Mario to anyone that liked the old Super Mario Bros games or the previous two Paper Mario games as while the game doesn't seem to feel as action packed as the older Super Mario Bros games it does have a good story and exploration feel like the previous two Paper Mario games and is definitely an original and innovative idea for an action adventure game. It's also the second best game on the Wii currently (only behind Zelda Twilight Princess) in my opinion and the best original game considering that Zelda Twilight Princess was originally made on the GameCube and in mid process of making it was also done up for the Wii.

Strengths: Fun take on the Paper Mario formula with enough changes to keep the formula fresh. Amazing 2D/3D flipping dynamic.
Weaknesses: Inventory management a real pain, makes completing some sidequests not so much fun.
Summary: Paper Mario is a follow-up to the excellent Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on the Gamecube. The Gamecube game and the Nintendo 64 original were more role-playing games than the current one is. In the originals you moved a 2D (paper) version of Mario around, exploring towns and various other areas, and entering a turn-based combat arena when you encountered enemies. Super Paper Mario dumps the turn-based battling in favor of a real-time platforming approach. You still gain levels and can use healing items, but the combat is classic Mario - jumping on the heads of various enemies. You can also play as a few other characters and each has unique attacks and other abilities. Yet this game is not a typical Mario platforming game either. Like an RPG, it is heavily story-driven (and you will do much reading of text in this game so beware of that). And while you must battle regular enemies and several bosses there are more puzzle elements than a typical Mario platform game. There are two things that help increase the diversity and complexity of the puzzles. For one, you can switch between 2D and 3D perspectives to get a different look at the environment. Things that are hidden in one view may appear obvious in the other. You will spend most of the game in 2D as you only have limited time in 3D before your health starts to drain away. Also, only Mario can initiate the 2D/3D switch. The second element that adds to the diversity is the helper "Pixl" that follows you around. You can have one active at any given time and they all provide different capabilities like making you tiny, or uncovering hidden items, or providing a platform so you can skim over spiked pits. As you gather more and more Pixls the options for solving puzzles become more complex. The game never gets too difficult, though. There are a few sidequests that mostly involve completing various collections. You will find character cards and it will take some dedication (and playing well beyond the regular ending of the game) to collect all 256 of them. There are also recipes to find and dishes (which are typically healing or power-up items) to make. My one main gripe with the game is the limited number of items you can carry. This is a problem when you want to make recipes that require two items. You have to do a lot of tedious trekking between the bakery and the store (where, thankfully, you can store more items than your measly inventory holds). They could have solved this simply by allowing the baker to keep your cooking items for you. All in all, however, Super Paper Mario is one of the top Wii games along with Zelda Twilight Princess and highly recommended for any Mario fan.

Strengths: New gameplay mechanic. Looks great and cartoony. Great story.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: Super Paper Mario is a great game in the tradition of past Paper Mario's. This time, there's even greater manipulation of the environment, a hallmark of Paper Mario's past. This time you can flatten the screen to make it either 3D or 2D. From that you can then open up new areas or find hidden places and things. The gameplay is great and the characters are fantastic. Highly recommended!

Strengths: Amazing "3D" Paper Mario!
Weaknesses: Frequent 2D-3D switches could be annoying
Summary: It is a hybrid of a typical 2D Mario Bros adventure and Paper Mario RPG game. In addition, you can switch to a 3D mode from the ordinary 2D mode in the adventure section. Many things are hidden in the 3D background. This also offers lots fun to escape from a strong enemy by just walking behind it in the 3D mode :)))))))). Every Wii owner must try it!

Strengths: Creative gameplay, good and unique storyline, multiple playable characters, and the dialogue is genius!
Weaknesses: Going 2D->3D kinda gets annoying after awhile. All characters have a special ability for when you are faced with a puzzle, but mainly it's having to use Mario to flip from 2D to 3D.
Summary: Great, great, great game. If you enjoyed Thousand Year Door, then you will love this game. No, it doesn't follow after that game so if you didn't play it, it's no big deal. It's nice to have a new Mario game on a console, that plays in 2D and also have different characters. Storyline is very good, unfortunately there's a bit TOO much talking at times. The game should take anywhere between 20-30 hours to beat, which is very good for an platformer, but with RPG elements. If you are are a big avid fan of the Mario series then you will definitely love this game so PICK IT UP!!

Strengths: Gameplay, Stylish 2D Graphics, Controls
Weaknesses: Story
Summary: Super Paper Mario is a hard game to describe, as it is both a 2D and 3D game, but lacks one real genre. Best way to describe it is a platformer with RPG elements. Whatever you call it, it is a very good game. The 2D platforming is very well done and has a lot of elements from the old school Mario games mixed with RPG elements and puzzles. It is very fun and so is the 3D part which you can change to on the fly. It controls very well and looks very good when in 2D. Sometimes the story can be a bit annoying but it isn't that bad and sometimes can be very funny. Overall a really good game.

Strengths: Creative gameplay that takes full advantage of the whole 2D "paper" concept.
Weaknesses: I think this game has a little too much dialog for me. Granted the story line is pretty good, but there is just a little too much reading when all I want to do is play!
Summary: The game is filled with fun surprises and is challenging without being frustrating. I own the gamecube version of this game, and loved that, so I was really anticipating the release of super paper Mario - and it didn't disappoint. This game has some components of the old version, but with a focus on the whole idea of 2D vs 3D. Requires some thinking to get through the level, but that's part of why it's so great. Highly recommend!

Strengths: Fun gameplay, nice graphics, cool, mind-bending concepts.
Weaknesses: "In your face" story, minor gameplay annoyances.
Summary: Super Paper Mario is definitely the biggest Wii game of the spring, combining platforming and RPG elements along with dimension-busting gameplay to bring an experience to gamers that is unlike anything else out there. It’s unfortunate that the game ruins the nice sense of pacing in the gameplay with an overemphasis on story that makes you want to skip it, despite knowing that it’s not wise to do so. Luckily, the game is fun and creative enough to overlook these issues and it’s easy to get drawn into the game for hours at a time. It’s not a perfect game by any means, but there’s very little reason to avoid Super Paper Mario if you have a Wii and you’re looking for a new game to enjoy.

Strengths: Super Paper Mario controls tightly and uses the Wii remote in a smart manner.
Weaknesses: I have not found any.
Summary: Super Paper Mario on the Nintendo Wii is one part platformer and one part RPG. The new 2D to 3D dynamic is built around clever and surprisingly complex puzzles that will challenge and impress you. Super Paper Mario is a highly enjoyable game. You will have fun and the fun will last for a good while.

Strengths: Inventive gameplay, has a sense of humor, clean graphics, Fun storyline.
Weaknesses: Too much dialogue, not enough platforming elements.
Summary: I am really enjoying this game, as I haven't played a Mario game since the disappointing Super Mario Sunshine for the Gamecube. Overall, this game isn't a classic; but definitely worth your time if you're looking for something new. Until I got this game, my Wii had been collecting dust. My Score: 9/10

Strengths: 2-D/3-D Flip is awesome, 2-D platformer style, Mario!
Weaknesses: A bit text heavy, kind of easy
Summary: I am a huge fan of Mario, particularly 2-D Mario, but not much of a fan of RPGs. I’ve never played either of the other two entries in the Paper Mario series, but when I saw demo videos of this game, I was immediately excited. Super Paper Mario is a genre blending game that mixes 2-D and 3-D platformers with an RPG. The result is a highly enjoyable Mario adventure that plays like a classic Mario platformer and has light RPG elements. If you are familiar with role-playing games (RPGs), you know that the battles are usually a turn based type system. This is the system that was used in previous Paper Mario games, but this has been eliminated in this edition. Enemies are defeated by stomping or throwing. You do collect items and lose hit points like in an RPG and there is an emphasis on the story. One of my complaints with the game is that the text can be a bit overwhelming at times when you just want to play the game. Other than text at times, I absolutely love this game. The platform style game play is very similar to other Mario games with item blocks, power-ups and the usual excellent levels. The 2-D/3-D flipping adds dimensionality to the 2-D platforming that you are accustomed to. So far, I’ve played through the first three worlds and the game seems a bit easy, but that does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the game.
Because of the 2-D/3-D flipping, there are lots of secrets to find and it is possible to replay chapters, thus adding a great amount of replay value to the game. It’s also really fun, I can see myself wanting to pick this up again in a few months after beating it the first time. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys Mario or 2-D platformers. I believe that everyone will get some enjoyment out of this game, however as it is a really well made game.
