Strengths: Easy setup.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: Real easy setup, especially on MS XP operating system. Hooked it to my Toshiba laptop, restarted and the driver installation was completed. I used the card to download an antire 60 min DV recording from my Canon Elura, and the card performed perfectly. Couldn't have been happier with this purchase. Free included cable makes things even better. All in all the deal cost me below $25, and to think they charge that amount just for a simple IEEE cable at BestBuy.

Strengths: Fast Data transmission
Weaknesses: Creating VCD dic problem probably due to the software.
Summary: I am using the card for my notebook. I feel it can transfer the video data from the camcorder to the computer without loss of data. It is enjoyable my video tape can be saved to a CD disk with AV format. This will save money because the tape is quite expensive and now I can reuse it again and again. It is also fun to make movie editing as I want. Finally I can say that again it is worth to buy it.

Strengths: Ease of installation Great software bundled
Weaknesses: none
Summary: It was very easy to install this card. I was also able to get the software up and running in less than an hour. It is quite easy too. It allows you to overlay mp3s which i think is really cool.

Strengths: low price, Two ports
Weaknesses: Could have been better if there is atleast one USB port connector (comobo USB & IEEE 1394). In net I could see for the same price a Combo piece.
Summary: I bought a Dell expensive laptop. This did not come with IEEE 1394 port. So I just wanted some IEEE 1394 PCI card with low price. This did suit to my requirement very well. I did transfer data from my Canon camcorder to my laptop using this and the transfer rate is also reasonably good. No hassles. Just plug and play. It also came with ULEAD software and cable. I definitely recommend this product for other users also.

Strengths: Works exactly as expected
Weaknesses: Non so far.
Summary: 2004-12-20 15:04:09 I don't have USB 2.0 in my laptop, so after purchasing Plextor external DVD/CD recorder I chose a most unexpencive

option: buying StarTech.com 2PORT IEEE-1394 FIREWIRE Card.

I didn't burn any DVD yet but after burning several CDs I am very satisfied by this product.

Strengths: Easy to install and superb ULEAD software, very functional and straight forward.
Weaknesses: Non so far.
Summary: Installing and using this card is a piece of cake. Literally plug and play, very fast and with a cable for Digital Camera included, a real bargain.

Strengths: Immediately recognized and works flawlessly with my Plextor PX-712UF
Weaknesses: Connection part on card is so bit it makes it impossible for me to use a second PCMCIA card at the same time.
Summary: This card is great for the price. It instantly added firewire connections to my notebook, which lacked them. I am now able to burn DVDs using my PX-712UF.

Strengths: easy to use, reliable
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: 2005-05-07 14:58:22 This is my first firewire cardbus. Works great when used to connect a Sony digital camcorder and a Western Digital external hard drive to my laptop. The quality of transferred image is great. No installation is needed for windows XP.

Strengths: Easy to use.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I used this card to transfer the video from my canon camcorder to my laptop. It did exactly what it's supposed to do. No image is lost, and speed is good. I like it. Bought it from buy.com and the price is also good.

Strengths: easy to set up, good transfer rate
Weaknesses: so far, no.
Summary: I currently use it to connect my new external hard disk drive to my laptop. It is easy to set up. It works fine. It takes about 3 min to copy 400Mb data from local hard disk onto external hard disk via this IEEE 1394 card. It is worthy to buy!

Strengths: Easily fitted into my laptop cardbus and recognized automatically. A cable and a software was included.
Weaknesses: Design
Summary: I bought this iee-1394 card to transfer movie file from my sony camcorder to my sony labtop. It was installed easily and the speed that supported by this card was satisfiable. No noticeable problem with the transfer. It was also great that 3 ft cable was included in the package.

Strengths: Excellent price, works flawlessly, even includes firewire cable.
Weaknesses: n/a
Summary: This product is an excellent value, you get a firewire cable along with VideoStudio 7 SE Basic software program. The software and cable bought separately would exceed the price of the card! Plugged it in, fired up the laptop, works great with external HHD and with camera!

Strengths: Ease of use. Good value
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I was looking for a means to connect my Panasonic DVD camera to my new laptop. The laptop didn't come with firewire. So for $24 I have a workaround that makes it a snap to transfer digital movies to my computer and process them

Strengths: The Firewire card works great. It gives me the desired connection speed. The Ulead software is also good for transferring and editing
Weaknesses: The cable does not connect to my digital camcorder. So I had to sepnd an additional 30 bucks to get the cord
Summary: The product except the cord is fine. The cord is there but it is of no use because it does not fit into my camcorder. It says it connects to most camcorders but in reality it does not. I have tried onnecting different models of Sony, like TRV-310 and TRV-210, but it does nto work. So budget for an additional 30 dollars for the card.

Strengths: very simple to use
Weaknesses: no
Summary: Open the box, insert it to PC MIC slot, connet the firewire to my Canon ZR 85. Then everything automatically works in my laptop. My system is XP. Just follow the instruction to use the Windows Movie Maker to capture the video.

It's really an easy and happy thing to use this card.

It's worth to buy.

Thanks for other reviews.
