Strengths: Light weight. Vibrant colors. Quiet operation.
Weaknesses: Design of the adjustement legs...there is only one in the front (I am accustomed to having two to adjust height and level).
Summary: After much research on lumens, contrast ratios, warranties and types of displays, the XD490U came out way ahead! After we received this DLP projector with a stunning 2500:1 contrast ratio and popped it out of the box, we were wowed; it delivered.
I had read several articles about contrast ratios, were they important or not? So, we tested this projector with a staunch competitor that we had available. We set it up side by side with a Sanyo PLC-XU48 LCD, 3000 lumen, 450:1 ratio. A decent projector. And to be honest we figured there would be little difference. We were dead wrong. The differences were substantial on the picture quality, detail and crispness of the images. The colors on the XD490 jumped off of the screen. We could see detail in the images from a distance that you would never have seen from the washed out picture of our comparable Sanyo.
The Mitsubishi ran quieter and much cooler than the Sanyo as well. It also the ability to adjust it's colors to shoot on a wall that is off white as well as other colors.
The Mitsubishi SC490U delivers! On top of that, they have a better warranty, one-year lamp warranty and a policy of sending you a projector to use if yours is in the shop. We are satisfied customers!
