Strengths: Complete redesign. Easier to use.
Weaknesses: Different file format. Difficult learning curve.
Summary: The installation on Vista Home Premium and the activation process went smoothly. MS Office has been totally redesigned and it may take awhile to find what you need. The menu bar and floating toolbars are gone; replaced by a top-mounted strip of controls called the Ribbon. What you used to have to hunt for is now in front of you on the Ribbon. The Ribbon changes depending on which of the seven permanent tabs you click at the top of the screen. Some Ribbons appear only when needed such as a graphics Ribbon appears when you click a picture in the document. You can see how a formatting choice will affect your document simply by pointing to a control without clicking. The file format has been changed and older versions can’t open a new document without the free converter available from Microsoft. A new document can be saved in the older file format. Microsoft also offers a free download so that you can save a document in PDF format.
