Strengths: amazing art design, cool story, classic point-n-click adventure gameplay, memorable characters
Weaknesses: slooow text speed, infrequent puzzles
Summary: Hotel Dusk is a DS twist on the classic PC adventure game genre where you gather items and look for clues in order to solve puzzles and advance the story.

The puzzles tend to be a bit easy but make great use of the DS' unique features.

The art direction is amazing; all of the characters look and move like they are pencil shaded drawings and it really adds a unique element to the detective story. The sound is good but nothing special.

It's not for younger players (lots of reading and a noir storyline) but otherwise highly recommended for DS owners that want something a little different.

Strengths: Amazing graphics, well-written story, feels like a murder mystery, good use of the DS
Weaknesses: No voice acting, lots of reading
Summary: Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is the story of Kyle, a private eye who was thrown off the police force. He comes to Hotel Dusk to look into his past, and finds some very odd things. The game's rendered in a book-illustration format, with great graphics. It has the DS turned on its side, so it appears that it's a murder mystery being read instead of a game. With the first-person perspective, it's controlled perfectly with the DS stylus. Unfortunately, it's all text reading without any voice acting, so that may turn off some. It's a great experience and a perfect DS game.

Strengths: Using the stylus to navigate through the rooms is easy. The graphics are amazing.
Weaknesses: I have not found any weaknesses.
Summary: 2007-02-14 15:55:43 The majority of the gameplay revolves around dialogue, but the story is frequently punctuated with puzzles and time spent exploring the hotel. Hotel Dusk keeps you on your toes at all times. Ask the maid too many suspicious questions and she'll think you're a reporter, toss you out on the street, and it's Game Over for you. The graphics are flat-out amazing. None of the people you meet at Hotel Dusk are boring. It's a refreshing experience, certainly one of the best I've had in a long time. I highly recommend Hotel Dusk Room 215 to anyone who has a Nintendo DS.

Strengths: Cool noir atmosphere; unique gameplay; sharp details
Weaknesses: Can be slow at times
Summary: Hotel Dusk Room 215 is unlike any other game out there. It's an interesting noir-style mystery game that you set out to solve as the detective. It's played like you're reading a book with the DS on its side. With its sharp visuals, excellent dialogue, and unique gameplay elements, it makes for a very rewarding gaming experience.

Strengths: Good story. Unique interface/controls. Fun characters.
Weaknesses: A little cliche in story.
Summary: Hotel dusk is a great mystery adventure game. It has some interesting characters, a neat story, and a fun enviroment to explore. One thing I want to highlight is the interface.

First, you hold the DS like a book, using the touch pad to move around on an overhead view and the left screen to look at your surroundings. There's a little notepad to write notes using the touchscreen, you cna loolk at items in greater detail, and even interrupt conversations in mid sentence to ask questions. Overall, it's a great little game.

Strengths: Perfectly uses the DS; amazing graphics; very moody game (in a good way); very unique experience
Weaknesses: Sometimes the UI can be a bit clunky, or too many flips through too many pages for not a lot of dialog, but it's minor.
Summary: This game is really amazing, but at the same time, isn't for everyone. Hotel Dusk is an adventure game for the DS that tries to bring the atmosphere of detective books and movies into a game, and for the most part, absolutely succeeds. The graphics are mostly hand drawn (with some 3D models added when necessary) and beautiful.

It is at its heart a point-and-click adventure game, as many have pointed out, but it is pulled off in a fresh and unique way. There is a very deep story with many subplots going on (it can be a bit confusing to keep everything straight, although the game does allow you to keep notes and read back through some of the dialog). Good writing is definitely the cornerstone of a good adventure game, and this game is great.

Think of a great detective book, or comic book, come to life-- and that's pretty much what Hotel Dusk is. The writing is a bit cheesy in places, and sometimes you have to go through a LOT of dialog, but it is pulled off expertly. It's a great game to go off on a vacation with, instead of a book-- it just has that sort of feeling. Definitely worth at least renting, and very highly recommended to purchase.

Strengths: retro feel, unique "look"
Weaknesses: can be slow action-wise at times
Summary: Hotel Dusk reminds me a bit of the old school, point and click adventures. It’s really a mystery novel with some interactive elements. So far, it’s an engrossing story where you’re a detective trying to find stuff, but find that there is a bigger story is related to the main character’s past (not spoiling it here).

The gameplay isn’t too difficult and it’s really text heavy. It really has the flavor of reading a good mystery novel as you guide your main character through the story, searching for information, people and items.

So settle down with this title like you would a good book. Even the DS is set up like a book while you play. Obviously, there is minimal to no replay value, so make sure you’re ok with this before you pick up this title. Recommended as a low-key, text adventure game.

Strengths: Unique interactive adventure-mystery game for the DS
Weaknesses: Do not play if you don't like lots of reading
Summary: Hotel Dusk can best be described as an interactive mystery novel. It also harkens back to the glory days of point and click PC adventure games (thanks to the DS stylus). If you are fond of either of those genres, then this is a great pick-up for the DS. This is a game that would fail utterly on a home console system (played on your TV) but is perfect for travel or just kicking back in a chair and playing with the book-like DS system.

The art style is unique and engaging and the story is interesting, which is good as the entire game revolves around solving a mystery. If you do not like lots of interactive text in your games, then do not pick this up. But even for people who don't like that in their console games, they may find that it is acceptable in this DS version simply because the game is so good and it is really like reading a book when playing on the DS.

Strengths: Stylish graphics, interesting story, fun puzzles (several are console-specific). A lot of fun to play.
Weaknesses: Too few puzzles, puzzles are too easy, game is very linear (you cannot progress at all until you do something the game wants you to do)
Summary: This game gets you right from the beginning: you have to hold the console sideways. From there, the art/animation style is very appealing. I kind of dislike the 3D scenes (happens every time you enter a new room) - but these are not very frequent and only happen once per room.

To me, this game achieves the following goal: it simulates the experience of reading a book, while making the experience interactive. Although the imagery is animated, there's no lipsync - your brain is forced to fill in whatever is missing. This actually gives the characters more depth and the player connects with the characters easier (than in a movie, for example).

The game could use more puzzles, but that's a matter of opinion. It probably would not flow as well as it does, though. Making the puzzles harder would make it more fun to play, though.

I hope there will be a sequel - if there will be, I'll play it too :)

Strengths: Great Characters and a story you can get into, some good dialog, some clever puzzles
Weaknesses: some puzzles that are not so clever and some that are poorly responsive even when you know what to do with them.
Summary: This game is a great point and click adventure game! I was really into discovering things about the story and characters. You play as a ex-police officer who comes to the hotel on buisness but starts investigating the mysteries of the Hotel and its guests. It plays alot like the game "Trace Memory" if you've played that. Basicly you move around the hotel and interview people and find objects to solve puzzles. Sometimes its hard to solve the puzzles (not always due to your own stupidity) or find a needed person to talk to. The game grinds to a halt then, if you don't know what to do. But the story and characters are so interesting I quickly forget about any times I was stuck. Graphicly the game is really cool. Moving around the hotel is 3D, but the characters are done in a sketchy pencil drawn style. It's a really great game and I recomend it if you don't mind reading.

Strengths: Very creative story line, Addictive game control.
Weaknesses: Can be confusing or hard for younger players, No Wi-Fi compatibility.
Summary: Hotel Dusk Room 215 is the first kind of game available for Nintendo DS. Game begins as the player is a detective as begins solving mysteries about what happened in Hotel Dusk. From there you will face lots of different situation where you must get clues and figure out problems to move on. The game can be long with lots of reading and understanding but without that the game will be meaningless. After playing this game I am somewhat satisfied with it and is happy.

Strengths: Welcome departure from the ordinary. Plays more like a PC text adventure with some point-and-click adventure (think 'Sam & Max Hit the Road'). Artwork reminicent of a-ha's "Take on Me" video.
Weaknesses: Gameplay is very linear, and can cause you to get hung up because you didn't find (or even know you were looking for) something. No voice acting. Artwork reminicent of a-ha's "Take on Me" video.
Summary: The novelty value alone should be enough to make someone want to give Hotel Dusk a try. It really feels like you're playing an old-school, point-and-click adventure.

Of course, that also means that the game carries so many of the point-and-click game's faults. You can't progress through the story until you figure out where the game wants you to be, and what it wants you to do while you're there.

That said, once you're in the game environment, you'll find yourself surrounded by interesting characters, interweaving storylines, and more dimestore dialogue than you can shake a stick (or stylus) at. If you remember the days when a lack of voice acting in video games was an expectation, and not an exception....chances are you'll appreciate this game.

You may need a FAQ / walkthrough for the rough spots, but this is a worthwhile game for anyone who owns a DS (and if you're reading this, chances are that means you).

Strengths: Great characters; great story; surprising humor
Weaknesses: Weaknesses? More puzzles would be nice, but that's a stretch...
Summary: Hotel Dusk follows in the vein of Trace Memory as a good point-and-click mystery. While Trace Memory was rather short and sometimes unengaging, Hotel Dusk is of fairly good length and suprisingly well-written and fun to keep up with. The story follows Kyle Hyde as an ex-cop chasing a ghost from his past in an attempt to find closure in his life. This leads him to Hotel Dusk where he happens upon a variety of characters, each with his or her own secrets tucked away. Hyde slowly unravels the mysteries through interaction with the hotel environment and questioning/conversing with the other characters. While questioning people, it's possible to say the wrong thing and get yourself kicked out of the hotel, so be careful. No worries though, as the game will just start you back at an appropriate place so you can replay the scenario. The writers really went all out with this game. Each character has an intriguing backstory, and even the normally mundane aspects of this type of game (examining various items in the environment) are spiced up with Hyde's humorous deadpan quips. Kyle really stands out in the game, and I hope this earns him at least an appearance in a sequel. If you don't mind the considerable reading involved, this is definitely worth picking up.
