Nikon D300
The Nikon D200 was a truly great camera that offered professional performance at an enthusiasts price. Even now, its 10-megapixel CCD sensor can easily hold its own compared with similarly-priced rivals, and the robust build quality was - and still is - out of this world.

Nikon D300 Review
The mid-range digital SLR camera market has never been so competitive, with new models recently announced by virtually all the major manufacturers. The Nikon D300 is the latest prosumer model to pass through our review lab. With the highest price-tag of any of the main contenders, it has a lot to live up to, but a quick glance at the spec sheet reveals some impressive features. A new 12.3 APS-C sized sensor, 51 point AF system, 3 inch LCD screen, 6fps continuous shooting, Live View mode and ISO range of 100-6400 are all squeezed into the D300's dust and water resistant magnesium alloy body. We published some impressive photos and an in-depth report when nature photographer Jan Vermeer took the D300 all the way to Antarctica. Now Gavin Stoker hits the not-quite-so-cold streets of London to find out what the Nikon D300 is capable of in a more everyday setting.

Camera Labs – Nikon D300 review
There’s no denying the Nikon D300 is a highly capable DSLR which will delight enthusiasts and satisfy the demands of pros looking for a backup or ‘budget’ body. Certainly no-one does ergonomics like Nikon and despite a handful of annoyances, it’s also the most feature-packed DSLR of its class. But there’s also no denying it’s comfortably more expensive than many rivals while not delivering significantly better image quality. So it’s a case of weighing up the D300’s features against its higher price. The D300 is undoubtedly a great camera to use, but are its features worth 40-50% more than the Canon EOS 40D or Sony A700? Unless you’ve already bought into the Nikon system, we’d advise closely comparing it to the rivals. Find out in our full review how the Nikon D300 compares against its closest rivals - and for a demonstration of this feature packed DSLR in action, check out our video tour.

Nikon D300 hands on first look review
The D300 is a dream to use and hold, the download time screams past leaving the camera begging for more. Whilst I used it I was blown away by the performance and sheer colossal power of it. The D300 acted like a Professional DSLR, not the Semi-Pro that Nikon class it as.
